Oviraptor, meaning "egg thief" in Latin, was a dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 75 million years ago. Initially misinterpreted to be a nest raider due to its name, it was later discovered that Oviraptor was actually brooding its own eggs, similar to modern-day birds. Fossils found in Mongolia revealed that this dinosaur had a unique, bird-like skull with a toothless beak and a crest on top, possibly used for courtship or species recognition. Oviraptor also possessed long legs and a bony tail, indicating it was a swift runner. Its discovery revolutionized the understanding of dinosaur behavior and provided evidence of parental care in non-avian dinosaurs.
